I realize that wine is not a drink, but a style

“Wine helps us relax in some awkward social situations, especially when you don’t know what to say in a conversation.”

Meeting Van, we can’t stop feeling impressed by her positive energy, a nonprofit consultant at Raise Partners, as well as being the co-organizer of Network Girls - a women’s networking group in Ho Chi Minh City that takes place once a month.

After 12 years living and working in Ho Chi Minh, Van admits that she is pretty much inspired by Vietnamese youths - super active and extremely creative people, that’s how she described it.

Also because of the environment and also the people here are the main reasons for her diving deeper in drinking wine.

“Actually I started drinking wine in highschool as I thought it was cool”, she laughed.

“But the older I get, the more I realize that wine is not a drink, but a style”.

Wine has helped her build stronger connections with members in the Network Girls community. With wine, they know how to feel sympathetic for each other, more open and show others our very own styles.

As Van understands that there are still many stereotypes against women drinking wine, people don’t take this as a usual thing.

“So, we usually drink wine at Network Girls events, and personally, I am a usual drinker, mostly whenever I have a chance to. Even when it’s the beginning of the week or weekend, hanging out with friends or family or boyfriend”, Van said.

“Wine helps us relax in some awkward social situations, especially when you don’t know what to say in a conversation.”

Every taste, every scent, every grape brings her different experiences, that’s why Van never limits herself in any specific styles, but being flexible when choosing wine that fits the occasions, weather, time of the day.

Wine is not only the best buddy of Van, but to many, many others, and Vietnam Cellar will help you find out more in later posts!
